On May 10, 2010, members of the Colorado Citizens' Advisory Commission, or CAC, toured the Pueblo
Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant construction site at the Pueblo Chemical Depot. Following
the tour, CAC member Ross Vincent, and CAC Chair, Irene Kornelly, offered their thoughts
about the construction progress they observed. "It's actually pretty exciting to see the
way this thing's coming together. A lot of people in this town put a lot of time and
energy over 20 years now to try to make this happen, and the more I see going up out there
the more hopeful I am that it's actually going to happen. So we're looking forward to it.
It was good to see all those buildings up, and now if we can see more of the equipment
on the inside we'll be ready to go. I want to be there when they flip the switch."
"The construction status is wonderful. It's really moving along and you can see great
improvements and it's nice to see not only the outsides of the shells built, but the
inside being built up and you can actually figure out rooms where things are going to
be happening, so it's really great. It's a huge amount of progress. I mean, before there
was lots of buildings that were still very incomplete looking even from the outside,
and now all of those are up and, as I said, they're putting all of the workings on the
inside, and that's great."
"If all of the workers out there are as thorough
and as committed as they are -- and from what I hear they are -- then that's very encouraging."
