Hi, I’m Matthew Stewart, your host for the
October 7th edition of IUPUI’s The Spot. If you want to change on campus, or maybe you
just want to meet Chancellor Bantz, the next Chat with the Chancellor will be on Wednesday,
October 14th from 3:30 to 4:30 in the Campus Center, room 309. Refreshments will be provided
. Before graduation, it all starts with a vision
and a goal, and after graduation, IUPUI alumni are fulfilling their dreams. The Spot went into
the community to find out where they are now. We spoke with Mallory Rubenstein to see what
she has accomplished post-graduation. [M. Rubenstein] While I was at IUPUI I studied
Marketing and International Business through the Kelly School of Business. I was hoping to
graduate and work in the field of Marketing. Now I work at Exact Target in downtown
Indianapolis. My title is the Marketing Business Analyst. I’m responsible for our whole
business metrics and monitoring our demand generation and analyzing Marketing apparitions.
The journey to get to Exact Target was both long and short, I was looking for a job for
months before I found this one but in the end there were only 8 days between my graduation
and my start date here at Exact Target so it was definitely the way that I hoped it would
turn out. One of the most beneficial aspects of IUPUI was its location in Indianapolis, since I
had an internship during my school years in the city, I thought that that was good experience
and it definitely prepared me for the job that I have now. The other beneficial aspect of
IUPUI was that the professors used real world examples that help me today. My advice to
undergraduate students at IUPUI would be work hard, graduate on time, apply for a lot of jobs
, and just don’t give up until you find the right one for you.
IUPUI now has 21 schools on campus, and the newest addition is the IUPUI Honors College.
This school offers a serious destination for high ability students who wish to challenge
themselves above and beyond. The dean of the Honors College, Dr. Jane Luzar, has invited
about 800 students to participate in the inaugural year of the new school.
Before you know it, basketball season will be underway. Fans can now purchase tickets to all
four men’s basketball games scheduled at Conseco for just $40 via Ticketmaster. For more details

Multicultural Center moved from the basement to the first floor, room 115 of Taylor Hall, but
they won’t be there long. News reporter Capri Copp has more on this story.
[C. Copp] Taylor Hall where students continually walk to and from classes will be
the new home of IUPUI’s Multicultural Center. This area of 18,000 sq ft will include a new
computer lab, meeting and conference rooms, additional space for student organizations, and
a new food operation. Ms. Sophia Bryant, the director of the Multicultural Center moved all
the way from Washington D.C. to Indiana. Why? Her dream is to build a new center for
Diversity awareness for the community of IUPUI. Last spring IUPUI students were surveyed and
asked to highlight the top aspects of their campus. Above parking and food quality, was
diversity. The goals of this new center are to meet the needs of IUPUI students and increase
participation in diversity events. There are also hopes to increase the appreciation of
diversity, as well as, to increase retention rates. Groundbreaking for the new Multicultural
Center is expected to begin in mid-November. Construction already began to move the Math
Assistance Center to its new location in the lower level of Taylor Hall. I’m Capri Copp,
JagTV News. “ Supporting diversity awareness on campus, th
e multicultural center will begin the groundbreaking of its new facility in
mid-November. The new environment will provide a computer lab, meeting and conference rooms,
space for their student organizations, and a new dining option.
University Library is offering a new service to students called “text a librarian.” Students
can text a question to 66746, begin the message with the keyword “iupui” and ask away. A
response will arrive shortly, and standard text messages rates do apply.
It’s IUPUI versus Purdue in a softball doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday,
October 10th, and IUPUI versus IPFW in women’s volleyball at 7pm. Good luck and go Jags. You
can track their progress at iupuijags.com. That’s it for The Spot this week. Be sure to
tune in next Wednesday for the latest campus news and student activities at jagtv.iupui.edu
. I’m Matthew Stewart, and thanks for Spotting us
