Welcome to the Batteries.com technical series. Today's session will
show you how to replace the battery on this AT&T cordless phone.
Not very difficult, but there are a few things we'll go over to help protect
yourself and your phone during the process.
And even though you may have a different brand or model of phone, the process
Should be similar for your's.
First we'll take the phone out of the cradle and turn it off if you can.
This particular model actually cannot be turned off,
but check with your own user's manual to see if you can power your's off.
Next we'll flip the phone over and look for the battery compartment.
It may look like this one.
Gently press and slide the compartment door down and away from the phone.
This should free up the panel and allow you to remove it, exposing the battery.
This is where it gets a little tricky.
Unlike your camera or laptop, most cordless phone batteries attach
to the phone by a wire.
Unfortunately you can't just grab the wire and pull,
you might damage the wire connector.
So instead you'll want to firmly grasp the battery connector itself and
pull it free.
Every phone is different, so check with your user manual before attempting this
to see if they have any recommendations on disconnecting the battery.
Another tip to keep in mind is to make a note of which color wire goes where so
you'll get them right when it's time to install the new battery.
This particular phone has a nice label to show you how they go, but not all phones do.
With the battery disconnected, the entire battery should now be free to remove
from the compartment.
This is a good time to inspect and clean the battery contacts as described in
your user manual.
If any dirt or particles come between a battery connector and the connection slot,
You could short out the power or possibly damage the phone itself.
Now do the same with the replacement battery,
once again consulting your manual for the recommended cleaning procedures.
It's now time to install the new battery.
Remember which way the wires went?
We got lucky here because in addition to the label they gave us a connector that
will only go in one way.
Again check your manual to see if they have any additional steps to take.
With the battery plugged back in you should arrange the battery in the compartment and
replace the compartment cover.
Be sure to check the battery cables so they don't get pinched will snapping the
cover back into place.
Now we can try out the new battery to make sure it's sending power to the headset.
Looks like we're back up and the phone is trying to connect to the home base.
It's always best to give the battery a full charge before using it for the first time.
With most phones you can check the display for a battery charge indicator.
And there you go! Cordless phone battery installed.
