Script for IRS Form8949 Direct Connect Option Video.
The Form8949.com program can generate Form 8949 by retrieving broker transaction data
directly from the Open Financial Exchange servers sponsored by many brokerage firms.
Open Financial Exchange, also known as O F X, is a technology that is used by many tax
and financial programs to import information over an internet connection.
- To access our program, select the “ Begin”
button. -
Here you can look over and review the terms check the agree box and then click “Next”.
- Enter your email address.

If you would like your name and SSN to appear at the top of your tax forms, enter your information
here. This step is completely optional.

On the next screen indicate whether you use a tax professional or use software to prepare
your taxes. I’ll choose [Tax professional] -
The program will assign you a passcode, which you will need when you are finished in order
to access your conversion results. So, Please make a note of it or select the option to
email it to yourself. Occasionally it will go to a spam folder so if you don’t see
it just check there. -
On the next screen I will select the “OFX Server option
- Select your broker from the list shown. If
you use more than one, you will need to select one at a time and the program will allow you
to come back and select another. We can now support up to nine brokerage firms.
- Enter the requested information. In some cases
the requested information is an account number and document id shown on your consolidated
brokerage statement. In other cases this may be the same user name and password you use
to access your Broker’s web site. You may also choose to mask your input if you would
like to. We are extremely security conscious and have chosen to write our program in a
way that this information is NOT retained in our system.
Information about access to the OFX server will be presented. When the process is complete,
select the continue button.
Our program will scan the data supplied by your broker. The number of transactions found
will be shown. Click the “Next” button after the scanning is completed.
The program will then convert your data into various output formats including Adobe PDF.
If you have a large volume of transactions this may take a minute or two.
When the conversion is completed, the program will show you the summary conversion results.
On the next screen, you can download the detail results for viewing in Adobe Reader.
If your broker-supplied data is missing the cost or other details for some transactions,
you can download an Excel spreadsheet created by the program, edit the spreadsheet, and
then submit the spreadsheet for processing.
Once you are happy with the results go to the next screen, which has a link to the PayPal
secure payment site. At the PayPal site you can pay with a credit card or with your PayPal
account, if you have one. By using the PayPal system, you can be assured that your credit
card information resides with PayPal.
After you have made your payment our program will email you your final conversion results.
You may also retrieve your results by going to our new document distribution website,
www.taxdochub.com. You can go there directly or use the link on our form8949.com site.
