In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I would like to introduce Ayatollah Sheikh Abdul Karim Haeri, director of the largest Hawza in Karbala.
Salaam Alaikum
Alaikum Salaam wa Rahmatollah
I would like to ask you a question regarding Azadari
What is your opinion regarding Qameh Zani, Zanjeer Zani, Tatbir? We would like an answer in regards to this.
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The question by our dear brother is regarding the Sha'a'er of Imam Hussain (AS),
meaning Qameh Zani, Zanjeer Zani, bladed or un-bladed, beating of the chest etc.
From narrations (hadith) we understand that whatever action reminds you of the love of Karbala is accepted by the Ahlul Bayt (AS).
It makes no difference if it is Qameh Zani, beating of the chest, or any other form of Azadari.
It may cross some peoples mind that Azadari should be more 'up to date' with the time we live in.
Who has ever said such a thing? Where is such a narration/tradition? What do you mean by more 'up to date'?
Is the prayer we do 5 times a day 'up to date'?
Every year, 2.5 to 3 million people travel to perform the Hajj. When it reaches performing the obligatory acts,
all the Hajji's play with the dirt and ground to find small stones, like children!
And what do they do with these small stones??!! They go and throw them at a wall!!
Which sane person would accept to do such an act??!
Don't you think that all the sane people in the world would question our childish acts and call us crazy? Wouldn't they??!
We don't say that these Sha'a'er (Hajj, Azadari etc) should be 'up to date' and that they don't look good in today's world.
If we were to ask the rest of the world to act according to what we think is right, do you think they would accept?
A while back, in the celebration of Eid Al-Hubb (Valentine's Day), 20 people died. 20 people were killed, on Valentine's Day!!
However, not one person has died in the ceremony of Sha'a'er Hussaini! So, would they perform what we ask of them?
Why should we have to fall short of our beliefs and duties just because they make fun and laugh at us?
If you don't want to do tatbir, then don't. You don't want to hit your chest or head, then don't.
For the person who strikes his head and sees no harm from it, it is a miracle to them.
They neither require stitches, nor do they require bandages, nothing.
Furthermore, we should not be shy or feel embarrassed about Azadari when we speak to people.
Explain to them, show them the miracles, and invite them to try it and see the miracles also.
