Finally a beauty contest with some fine birds to eye up.
You see what I did there, it was a little joke, because they're falcons and not women. Ah nobody cares.
So this strange competition was held in the United Arab Emirates to find the world's most beautiful falcon.
Competitors flew in from around the world to take part in the event, which was organised
by the Emirates Falconry Club in Abu Dhabi and was pretty in depth.
We do measuring of the wing, of the tail, of the chest of the falcon. Then we have a
look at the head, the eyes, the body, the legs. So we check it from head to toe, each
single part of this falcon. And then according to those measures, we are giving a grade.
Then all these grades are counted and then the falcon who has the highest points will
be the winner of the falcon beauty contest. So it's a big challenge for the falcons.
The three day contest was part of this year's International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition.
And it was a family affair, as falconry is taught to children at a young age
in the UAE.
Well, here falconry is passed down from generation to generation, and the fathers are already
taking care of their sons. And for example here in the Abu Dhabi falcon hospital, we
have a special program for schoolchildren to encourage them also to do falconry and
to learn about falcons.
