Move your shoulders towards me.
Turn around like that.
My kids realize that whenever
anything exciting happens in our life, it will be photographed.
They know that when Mom has her camera,
they just need to smile and get it over with.
Some of them like it now.
I have a bad memory, and I'm sad if I don't catch those moments.
So I try to capture every moment I can,
and that got me into photography.
I started blogging to keep a record of our family.
I write mostly about motherhood and its trials
and the things mothers go through.
I think a lot of people related to it.
The posts on my blog that are most popular are ones that say,
"I had a horrible day. Everything went wrong,"
and I mention everything that went wrong.
And people love that.
It kind of stops time for me.
I could have a million things going on and realize,
"This is the most important.
I'm going to sit down with my four-year-old
and take a picture or take the kids walking in the rain."
That's how to "recharge my battery."
Or I could actually get enough sleep one night.
A bad day is when I forget about birthday parties or appointments
and I'm late for everything.
I just forgot my purse.
It's normal. I'll be right back.
I always forget something when we leave the house,
so I have to park the car again and go grab something.
It's all a game of trial and error.
We have to try over and over, and if it doesn't work,
try something different.
It doesn't work about half the time, I think.
My son called me one day from his friend's house
and told me to look at the sunset outside.
That's the best thing for me, to see he's learned to love beauty.
The world is gorgeous, and good lighting makes it even prettier.
I'm a wife.
I'm a blogger.
I believe in slamming doors when you're mad to feel better.
I'm a fiercely devoted mom.
I'm a photographer.
My name is Shawni Eyre Pothier, and I am a Mormon.
