Oscar VO: By many standards, Josie has a rough life.
She lives at home with her single mother, who works three jobs.
Her mother can’t be around much.
They communicate mostly by leaving notes for each other on the fridge every morning and night.
There’s not much money to go around, which makes Josie’s FlashForward especially poignant.
Josie: I was riding this big beautiful horse - brown and kinda cream.
We were galloping around this big field and we had to jump over those hurdle things.
More than anything I...
...I felt he loved me.
And I loved him.
Oscar VO: While the future Josie has seen seems bright, it’s a mystery how any of it will eventuate.
Josie: My Mom laughed at me when I told her my FlashForward.
Not in a mean way.
But, I guess it is kinda stupid, like, where am I going to get a horse?
That stuff’s for people with money to spare.
Not people like us.
The way I see it, the whole FlashForward thing was just like a dream.
You might want a dream to come true but it doesn’t mean it will or nothing.
Oscar: So why did you tell your story on the Mosaic Collective?
Josie: I don’t know.
It’s a nice story. I wanted to share it.
Oscar: Did you maybe hope somebody would see it who could make it come true?
Josie: I don’t know.
Oscar VO: So why was Josie's story chosen for the Mosaic Collective?
Is her story somehow connected to the Global Blackout in a way we can't see yet?
Josie: I used to have a doll of a girl riding a horse.
And that's how I looked, just like that doll.
Oscar VO: I wanted to know if the doll Josie mentioned in her original story
was somehow connected to the keywords my team had recently discovered.
Oscar: That doll in your story -
do you still have that?
Josie: Nah.
My dog ate her years ago.
Do you wish you still had it?
Josie: I’m not a kid anymore.
What kinda question is that?
Oscar: A dumb one.
Oscar VO: The GBO has forced us all to pose questions we don’t normally think to ask.
About our futures.
About what’s important to us.
And about what we really want from life.
So far our questions have gone largely unanswered.
But with each new story we encounter, another piece of the puzzle is filled in.
