today we have a two thousand four(2004)
Toyota Tundra (Med -size Pick-up truck)
with a four point seven (4.7) liter
V8 (eight cylinder) Engine
Today we are addressing a Misfire issue with this engine
cylinder number(#) five(5)
would give a mis-fire
when the driver accelerate
we applied a lot of throttle
Our misfires is coming from plug number(#) five(5)
so we have eight cylinder. number(#) one(1) cylinder is on the driver's side
of the front, of the engine
So this is cylinder number(#) one(1)
two(2) will be on the opposite side
This is Three(3)
this is five(5)
This is seven(7)
on the passenger side
we will have two(2)
four(4), six(6) eight(8)
That`s over here
We have two(2), four(4)
six(6), engine(8)
This ignition system is known has what we call a Direct fire ignition system
it does not has/have
distributor wired,distributor cap, or rotors
this is simply a spark plug and a coil attaches to the spark plugs
that's what makes it a Direct Fire ignition system
During the event of a mis-fire
a lot of things can cause a mis-fire
one would be a foul-up of spark plugs
If a spark plug has been in the engine for more than hundred thousand(100,000) mile
the electrode could become worn out (poor conductor)
and you will have a lack of spark or weak spark, sometime No-spark
that's one issue
in a misfire
The spark plug will bring upon you.
our second issue is
if you have a bend valve(cylinder head intake or exhaust)
or A valve seat
exhaust and intake valve seat,if they are bend or burn(damage)
it will cause a leak in the combustion chamber
and that will also cause a mis-fire
but that's not likely the problem here today
Another mis-fire
could also comes from the fuel injectors these little fellas was right
here
one injector or some of them
If the injector fails to produce fuel in to the cylinder
you also have a misfire
So Today we're going to start the truck up.
we`er gonna Plug our scanner(scan tool) in and see
Whats going on, and we gonna make our repair
when working on a fuel system
i highly recommend you go with
one of these bulbs
this is known as the fluorescent bulb
if it should break it will not produce a fire in the gasoline
If you us a incandescent balls
you will have problems
cause the filament is what will start to fire, so anytime your doing mechanic
or anything and engine around fuel
always used
these fluorescent light bulbs
"Beep"
The vehicle has
thirty five thousand five hundred
and
forty one(35,541) miles
as you can see we have a flashing check engine light
on most vehicle
when the check engine light
"flashes"
it's to notify the technician
and the driver
Of a mis-fire
only a flashing check engine light
Will announce a misfire
on the engine
so now let's see what cylinder we are having our mis-fire on.
Now we gonna read our codes(DTC)
as you can see
we have two(2) codes(DTC)
our code number(#) one(1)
Is cylinder five(5) mis-fire
code(DTC) number(#) two(2)
is cylinder five(5)
misfire detected
so we have one problem but two codes(DTC)
as you can see the flashing check engine light is still flashing
this mean a misfire is present
before
the misfire will only come-on when
the accelerator this press on the truck
so we're gonna proceed and removing number(#) five(5) coil
this is one(1)
that`s three(3)
and that's five(5)
so we gonna remove the coil
we`er gonna change the spark plug
and then we`er gonna re- checked the computer
to see the code(DTC) still exists
this is the new spark plugs
it is important that you match/compare the spark plugs
with the spark plug you removed from the engine
making sure that the threads are the same
and the length of the thread
is the same
very important
you also have
The coil
this is a coil from a Toyota, you can also buy it from any after-market retailer
That is your part number for
The ignition coil
all eight cylinders used the same ignition coil
so now we will proceed in removing the coil
first we have to remove the connector from the coil plug
request this little buttoning right here
Then by using a ten millimeter (10mm) wrench
you will remove the ten millimeter(10mm) bolt that holds the coil in position
once we have the coil removed
make sure
this rubber seal
it's always
under your coil
this rubber seal prevent moisture/water from getting down into the spark plugs
if water,If the seal is not here
and water should get on the engine the water will get down in to the spark plug
hole
and that will also cause a misfire
the spark plug
enter
where the coil is inserted
so it's very important that you replace this seal
when you put your coil back
sometime your new coil
will come with a seal
we also have our five-eighths(5/8) socket
inside the five-eight`s(5/8) is a
rubble garment
to hold the spark plugs
this is our old spark plug
Has you can see with the five-eighths(5/8) is able to lift/remove the spark plugs
from the cylinder head
i wouldn't recommend using any other spark plug socket
but a five-eights(5/8) spark plug socket
because the socket
has the ability to keep the plug
in place and in the socket
so removal is made easy
Now this spark plug
basically had it/finished
so willing to replace our new one(1)
and remember to always matches you spark plug UP.
we`er gonna place our spark plug in the socket
i'm going to use my finger to start with threads inside of the cylinder head(aluminum)
Once our spark plug is snug/fixed
you will go another quarters turn
That`s it
now we`ll replace our new coil
Has you can see we have our rubber seal
replaced ten millimeter (10mm)bolt
to hold the coil to the valve cover
PLEASE DON`T FORGET TO RATE and SUBSCRIBE.... THANK YOU :-)
i would recommend tightening the bolt
anyway to fifteen(15lb-ft)
twenty(20lb-ft)
this is an aluminum valve cover you do not want to exceed a torque limit
or you will strip the threads
will replace our plug(electrical) for the coil
i'm gonna check our vehicle
for codes
we will turn our key ON
engine OFF or Not running/not operating
first proceed
to clear the code(DTC)
from our previous diagnostic
now i'm going to start the vehicle up
and see for codes(DTC) still exists
so now we have fixed our misfire
on cylinder number(#) five(5)
by replacing the ignition coil
we will also verified that the code(DTC) has been fixed/corrected
We`er gonna read the code(DTC) one more time
System found NO DTC codes. THANK YOU and have a GREAT DAY. :-)
