TO2015 is raising the bar by establishing
a first-ever diversity policy for a Pan Am Games competition.
Toronto, which is hosting the Games in the summer of 2015,
is also one of the most multicultural cities in the world,
making this policy a natural fit.
We think social legacy and diversity is a high potential, highly relevant area for us.
How we look upon it? We kinda see this as what sustainability was for Vancouver,
we see diversity as being our statement that can move this community forward.
TO2015's diversity policy ensures that the economic impact of the Pan Am Games
will encourage development for communities that have often been overlooked in projects of this magnitude.
I've stated publicly that this is probably one of the greatest policies within the last 20 years
in terms of the economic impact it will have on diverse communities.
Many diverse businesses don't feel that they're going to be able to participate or get these opportunities.
Toronto 2015 has actually created a framework that will makes it possible for that to happen.
Organizations that wish to do business with the Toronto 2015 Games will have to show how they plan
to involve diverse communities as part of their applications. Just as Toronto 2015 has done itself.
So as we go out to procure services, we have embedded criteria for diversity into our RFPs and RFQs
and we're looking for opportunities to do education with small business owners,
encouraging large companies to partner with smaller, emerging entrepreneurs from diverse communities.
By recognizing and respecting the diverse nature of this region
Toronto 2015 is changing the course of business and in the process,
creating a multicultural legacy which reflects the value of all citizens and the importance of inclusion.
