RYAN LARSON: So today we're going over the key of F major on the keyboard and we're focusing
mainly on reading melody lines. Again, we're going to play some chords and do some chords
on our left hand and I'll give you references on how to go back and find those, but today
we're focusing mainly on reading melody lines. We're going to show you first how to read
in patterns and to get what is called solfege, or we use the same idea behind solfege as
we use and we'll give this technique to you and show you in a couple of different keys
so you'll get an idea of how easy it is to read melodies when you take the note values
away and just make it a pattern. Then we're going to play through an actual fake book
tune and we'll go measure by measure. We'll analyze the melody first and then we'll go
measure by measure and I'll explain to you how to go and find the chords in your left
hand where you can search on Expert Village to get all that information and we'll play
through the tune. And then at the end of the segment, we'll play through the whole tune
entirely. So, if you want to skip ahead and hear what it sounds like before you go through
and read it, it will be very good and it will help you as you read the line and get the
piece under your fingers.
