Hi. My name is Dan Delavan. I'm the owner and operator of Plastic Cutlery in Costa Mesa,
California. We have a great selection. We also have a website, plasticcutlery.com, and
today we're going to be talking about knives.
In buying knives, in this case, Buck knives, you want to make sure you look at it does
say Buck. Buck is all made in the U.S.A. now. They did experiment with a few things being
made in China and Taiwan; you want to avoid those.
In your hunting knives it's just a matter of choice. There's about six different styles
in your basic hunting knives and there's actually even more than that in SKU variations because
they'll change different handle materials and so forth. It's just a matter of choice
what's going to work for you, but the quality is all the same.
In selecting a knife you want to make sure that you get something that's going to work
for you, that you'll carry, because if you don't have the knife with you it's not going
to do you any good. So if you get too big of a knife chances are you're not going to
carry it and you won't have it. Remember when a folding hunter like this goes in a leather
pouch, it's going to go on your belt and that's going to be hanging off.
Then Buck does make some smaller folding lock-backs. A small knife like this will open boxes and
so forth. It's much easier to carry. It's very small in the pocket and light weight.
You don't have the sheath on your belt that's going to get caught on things. It closes up
just like the big one and that makes it easy to carry, so it's not very big in the pocket.
You want to look at the tang right here and make sure that it says 'Buck Knives' on it
and that it doesn't say 'Made in China' or 'Taiwan' because unfortunately in the knife
business there are a lot of knock-offs.
Buck knives will range anywhere for American made ones, anywhere from $25 on up. When you
get into the more collector ones of course they're going to get into the hundreds of
dollars but the folding knives are $50 or so. It's going to vary depending on the which
one it is. They do make some less expensive ones too that are still American made.
