In order to test out of the writing requirement or modify your initial WRIT course placement,
you must fill out the Portfolio Test-Out eForm. An eForm, or electronic form, is passed from
person to person for approval via an email notification. This method shortens the time
spent on the process and provides the ability to track the form at all times.
To find a link to the eForm, go to http://www.uwec.edu/Blugoldseminar/testout/index.htm. Once you have selected the link, a screen will appear
asking you to log in to eForm 1 using your UWEC username and password. Once you log in,
the Portfolio Test-Out form will automatically appear.
Note that if at any time you partially complete the form and wish to save and close your work,
you can click Save and Close for Later, found at the bottom of the form. This will
save your work, and you will be able to access it again as desired by going to http://eform1.uwec.edu
and logging in with your UWEC username and password.
The form automatically adds your personal information into the Student Information section.
In this section, fill in the College field using the dropdown menu, and type your
major into the textbox available. You are not able to simply type a name into the Advisor
field. Rather, to fill in your advisor, you must click the ellipses button to the right
of the textbox. Type the last name of your advisor into the box, and click Go.
Select the checkbox next to your advisors name, and click OK. Note that your advisors
name has now populated the Advisor field. If you do not know your college, major, or
advisor information at this time, you can leave any of these boxes blank.
You must provide answers for every question in the following fields. If a question uses
radio buttons, it means you may only select one answer. If a question uses checkboxes,
you may select all answers that apply.
The Writing Samples section requires you to add four examples of your own writing to complete
your portfolio. Note the link provided that offers more information regarding the complete
specifications for these portfolio components. To add a file, click Add Document. Click
Browse. Navigate to the desired file on your computer. Select the file, and click
Open. Click OK. Note that the file appears in the section.
In the Writers Choice option, you are welcome to submit multimedia work. However, if a text
is web-based, you can only provide a link to it in these textboxes. You cannot attach
video files to an eForm. You need to upload the video to YouTube or another hosting site
and then provide a link to it in this section. Be sure to make your project public
so that the reviewers can see it.
PowerPoint files also may not be attached to an eForm. If you wish to include a PowerPoint
file as a text, you must first save it as a PDF. There are multiple ways to do this,
but the method described here should apply to any version of PowerPoint you may have.
Go to File>Save As. From the Save as type dropdown menu, select the PDF option. Notice
that this changes the file extension to .pdf. Click Save. This conversion process
may take a couple of minutes. Upon completion, the PDF file opens. You may now attach this
PDF file to the eForm instead of the original PowerPoint file.
Once you have completed the eForm, you will click Submit to the Business Office
at the bottom of the page. This sends the form to the UW-Eau Claire Business Office.
The process will be halted there until you pay the $75 fee. Note the information found
in this section, indicating whom to make your check payable to and where to send it. When
you fill out your check, be sure to indicate Portfolio Test-Out on the memo line.
Remember, there is a deadline for this payment. If your payment is not postmarked by August
30th, you will be automatically denied the option of submitting a portfolio for review.
This fee is non-refundable regardless of the outcome of your portfolio review.
By submitting a portfolio, you are agreeing to defer your WRIT course until the spring
semester. Portfolio and WRIT placement decisions will be emailed to you no later than October
1st.
