The details of what a research paper is going to look like will vary slightly by the citation
system but there are some general rules you can stick with. First of all type it, no exceptions
on that one, type it in 12 point easily readable type, times Roman Courier any of those are
fine as long as it is an easily readable font. Double space, make sure your name and your
contact information is in the upper left hand corner of the first page and make sure you
have a header with your name and the page number that runs across all the pages of the
paper. When you open the file you are generally working in Microsoft Word don't mess around
with the margins, an inch on the top and an inch on the bottom and an inch and a quarter
on the sides that's perfectly fine. Make sure you have all your citations in order get your
in text citations in the right places, make sure your work sited page is well organized,
alphabetized by author's last name. The work sited space can be single space but the text
has to be double spaced. If you have long quotations, longer than three lines they go
inside narrower margins there's that extract as we say, bring it in another half an inch
on the left side and that shows that it is all in quotation, you don't have to put quotation
marks around that. For more details go to your grammar hand book if you are a college
student. You got that hand book for English comp and I'm sure your teacher told you to
save it, good idea. Otherwise, you can find this information pretty easily, the MLA has
website, the APA has a website and all the other major citation systems have their own
websites but stick with these basics and you should be o'kay.
