ADAMS>>> Today on the 413 we are applying a surface dressing material to the road, in
order to prolong the life of the road, primarily by waterproofing and stopping the rain from
getting into the top layers of the road. We are looking at seven years as a general rule,
hopefully with the double layer of material we are looking at getting seven to ten years
out of this material.
ROWLANDS>>> The state of this road, particularly from Winslow to Buckingham, was deteriorating
badly and we were getting a lot of complaints from people about damage to their cars, and
I'm certain that with what's been done today, in this twenty four hours will improve the
surface.
ADAMS>>> The whole programme itself is a two year programme, we're trying to do that over
the summer months so we'll have a lot of intensive work out because the surfacing material is
quite weather dependent so we don't want to lay in the frost or the rain. Traditionally
the Buckinghamshire Roads need about eight million pounds a year, just to stand still,
now with twenty five million over the two years, it's going to give us a nice head start.
ADAMS>>> The work we're carrying out today is what's classed as planing the existing
surface out, and then we will resurface in a little while, taking out the worn out existing
road surface.
HARDY>>> These roads have been selected by County Councillors based on the advice of
their residents, Unfortunately we need roughly two hundred and fifty million pounds to get
the roads back into the condition that residents want them to. The new coalition government
has given us some capital grants which were not forthcoming under the previous labour
government plus we've redirected budgets so that we can spend money on road resurfacing.
ADAMS>>> We have previously treated one section of the road a couple of years ago, and now
we've got the funding to completely finish the rest of the residential road that was
falling apart.
ROWLANDS>>> It's this and the A421 and my other major scheme is a section from Bottle
Dump Corner to the Milton Keynes boundary. These two roads are very strategic roads in
the Northern part of the county and they have both deterioated badly over the last five
years, and I'm delighted to see that, work is going to be done on both my major roads.
ADAMS>>> Obviously we're very sorry for any inconvenience caused on the day of the works,
but hopefully one days worth of delays on the road will give you seven years worth of
trouble free motoring on this road.
