Is King James English too hard to understand?
I've got a fun little test for you.
Hi, I'm David Daniels from Chick Publications.
See if you can fill in the blanks.
I'm gonna kinda -- well, you'll see.
Here is a song. See if you can fill in the blanks in your mind.
"My country ____ of _____, sweet land of liberty, of _____ I sing."
Did you get it? Here's another one.
"America, America, God _____ His grace on _______,
And crown _____ good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea."
Did you get it? Here's another one. This is the 6th Commandment.
"________ ________ not kill."
Jesus said, "_____ _______ love _____ neighbour as ___________."
Do you know what the words are?
Jesus said,
"For ______ is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. _______."
Juliet said, "__ Romeo, Romeo! ____________ ______ _______ Romeo?"
How about this song? You modern people might know it.
"_______, __ Lord, ____ a shield about me..."
Lincoln said, "Four ______ and seven years ago
our fathers brought _______ on this continent a new nation..."
Have you got it?
Jesus said, "Judge not, _______ _____ be judged."
She says the King James is too difficult?
"_________ the lady_____ protest too much!"
Look at all the vocabulary I just gave you! I gave you 16 words. Here's my list:
'tis, thee, shed, thy, thou, shalt, thyself, thine,
Amen, O, wherefore, art, score, forth, lest, and ye.
I threw in methinks, but actually 2 Samuel 18:27 has "Me thinketh"
so that's pretty close.
There are only about 600 "archaic" words in the King James Bible
and you already got 16 of them.
How hard can this be?
I have great confidence in your ability to understand the Bible.
Have fun. Learn the words and realize
once you know an archaic word, it isn't archaic anymore...
especially when you start to believe it, and use it.
God bless you, and have a wonderful day.
