Hi everyone. In this video, I will provide you with you a brief overview of the WorldShare
Metadata Collection Manager.
The Collection Manager is accessible in the WorldShare interface. After you have logged
in to WorldShare, click Metadata and expand Manage Collections to begin.
What can you do with Collection Manager?
You can register and manage your electronic journals and/or eBook collections in the WorldCat
knowledge base, maintain your holdings in WorldCat for titles in these collections,
as well as output MARC records. You can output MARC records for knowledge base collections
or WorldCat Query collections based on WorldCat indexes.
Here we are in the WorldShare interface. To begin, click Metadata on the top left of the
screen. Then expand Manage Collections.
To register your collections in the WorldCat knowledge base:
Search for the collection in the global knowledge base. For example, you will search for the
Proquest Library Science collection since your library subscribed to this collection.
Then register your holdings for this collection in the knowledge base by clicking Select Collection.
Once you do this, the knowledge base will register that your library has access to the
titles in the Proquest Library Science collection, as well as automatically update your knowledge
base holdings as the collection changes. If a collection doesn't exist in the global
knowledge base, you can add a new collection using the Create Standard Collection option
to register the collection in the knowledge base.
Some of you have already registered your electronic collections in the WorldCat knowledge base
using the Service Configuration interface. You noticed that you can perform these same
functions using the WorldShare interface.
To maintain your holdings in WorldCat for the titles in your collections
Click Library Holdings. Then expand Maintain holdings in WorldCat and turn on this option
so your holdings can be maintained in WorldCat. When you enable the maintain holdings in WorldCat
feature, your WorldCat holdings will automatically be added as new titles are added to your knowledge
base collections and will be deleted as titles are removed from any of your knowledge base
collection. You can enable or disable the Maintain WorldCat
Holdings feature on a collection-by-collection basis. For example, if you don't want to maintain
WorldCat holdings for the Proquest Library Science collection, you can disable the feature
for this collection in its Properties accordion.
To output MARC records for specific collections Click Library Holdings. Then expand Enable
MARC Record Delivery and turn on this option. Now you can customize the options for getting
MARC records. If you need to provide a copy of your bibliographic
records to a shared catalog, you can also output MARC records based on a WorldCat query.
To define a WorldCat Query collection based on existing WorldCat indexes, click Create
WorldCat Query Collection. Supply a collection name (like Shared Catalog), choose whether
this collection will be one-time output or ongoing, define the WorldCat Selection Criteria
for this collection, such as titles your library holds in WorldCat (li:ocwms), and set your
delivery options based on when data is needed.
Additional resources on how to perform the functions mentioned in this overview are available
at these websites, including online training sessions, training videos, and documentation.
