It is Day 2 of Te Matatini o te Ra in Gisborne.
The first team up this morning was Manawa Mai Tawhiti from Australia.
Later we will have a report on this group,
but first we cross live to Maiki Sherman
at Wai o Hika Estate for the latest information.
A local veteran group has just taken the stage, Te Hokowhitu a Tu.
14 groups took the stage today.
Rapaera has highlights from throughout the day.
Wai o Hika Estate was covered with people
on Day 2 of Te Matatini o te Ra.
Thousands arrived to enjoy a day of kapa haka,
and the occasional showers were no deterrent.
The melodious singing continued.
The day began with a group from Western Australia,
Manawa Mai Tawhiti.
Then a team from Rotorua, Manaia.
Muriwhenua are a new team from Te Tai Tokerau.
But it seems they're proficient at kapa haka.
Apart from the performances, the crowd also performed haka.
It is hard task picking a team to support.
I don't know who will win, but Te Whanau a Apanui were awesome.
Also from Te Tai Tokerau, Whangarei, was Hatea.
Then returning to the East Coast to the descendants of Paikea,
Whangaraa Mai Tawhiti.
An enjoyable day of kapa haka should be planned
because you need to be comfortable.
You need food.
Tomorrow the final pool will perform and then the nine finalists
that will perform again on Sunday will be named.
Rapaera Tawhai, Te Karere.
