My name is Jerry Johnson, I'm Vice President of Capital Projects for Waste Industries
here in Raleigh, North Carolina
Wake Tech, I think, as far as Jerry Johnson is concerned, was the start of
my career in the construction business
I was there when it was the old W.W. Holding
back in 1969
and it was Civil Engineering
building roads and bridges, had a co-op program back then where I would go out and work on
the road for three months, working with the state of North Carolina DOT
and then back into the school for classes
It taught me a lot about construction, about the
details of what you have to do, how to study,
and how to retain all that
It helped me to do what I'm doing today in the construction of these landfills
My name is Diana Knight and I
am the Nursing
Manager for 6A Cardiac Intermediate Care and the Chest Pain Unit of the Raleigh campus
One of the things that Wake Tech was most instrumental for me is setting the
standards of professional nursing right from the get-go, and knowing from
the very beginning what a professional nurse looks like, acts like, talks like,
dresses like
Those values which may seem very basic, I believe are a very important part
of nursing core values that you have throughout your whole profession
Wake Tech did an excellent job in providing us with resources. One value
and thing that I look at when I look at the Wake Tech nursing program is so many
experiences are geared towards the actual
acute care setting. While I know labs are very important,
and controlled environmental clinicals,
there is nothing that can replace the time spent on a clinical unit, and
i truly believe that Wake Tech excels in getting their students into the
environment, immersing them in that culture,
helping them learn how to learn while actually dealing with real patients
My name is Paul Gessner, and I'm a resident Superior Court judge here in Wake County
As a Superior Court judge, I preside over criminal and civil trials
here in Wake County as well as throughout North Carolina
Wake Tech was a great place for me to start my education
It provided me a good basic foundation
It put me in contact with a lot of people
in my field, in law enforcement where I started
and it gave me
a good solid background to enter into the workforce
i can honestly say that if it wasn't for
the foundation in the beginning that I got at Wake Tech, I don't think that I
would be sitting here today doing the things that I am doing today
