Stage one winners Jose Hermida and Rudi van Houts of the Multivan Merida team proudly
wore the overall leaders' yellow jerseys on the startline for the second stage of the
2013 Cape Epic but their hopes of a second successive stage win were effectively dashed
halfway through the stage when Hermida suffered a puncture - the duo losing ground and time
to their rivals.
Misfortune also struck two-time defending champion Christoph Sauser and new team-mate
Jaroslav Kulhavy, who snapped his chain and struggled to fix it with a broken tool.
That left the Bulls and Bulls 2 teams battling for the stage honours.
Three-time Cape Epic winner Karl Platt and Urs Huber of Bulls would come out on top in
that contest, completing the stage win in five hours, 35 minutes and 32.1 seconds.
