Hi this is Dawne from OCLC.
As a Lender, you constantly get items returned back from Borrowing libraries. When the Borrower
returns the item, they mark it Returned in the system. If you don't get that item returned
back to your Lending library, after 30 system days, it is going to age into what is known
as the Returned/Complete? category. This Returned/Complete? status reminds us "hey, these should have
been received by now." The Borrowing library returned them over 30 days ago so check to
make sure you didn't reshelf them without checking them back into the system or if you
need to follow-up that the item may indeed be lost.
When something is in the Returned/Complete? status, we are able, as the Lender, to Check
it in and Complete it, and move it over to a closed status.
Let's look at the workflows in the system. From the Interlibrary Loan home page there
is a Quick Link to the Returned/Complete? view or category. I can also use left sidebar
to go down into my Lending Requests, scroll down to the Returned, and here's Returned/Complete?
When I pull up that list these are the requests that have aged in the system in that Returned
status for more than 30 days. And I can tell that the Referral Date is actually the last
date something was done to that particular item. So it is likely that was the Returned
date. I am going to pull up this one, Balkan Ghosts, and for this particular item I checked
the shelf and found that it was indeed returned. So I can go ahead and Check in and Complete
that request. Now that request is closed.
Of course, if the item has not arrived you can keep the request in this Returned/Complete?
status. Follow-up with the Borrowing library for tracking information. So I can pull up
a request and of course use that handy Email function to again ask or request the Borrowing
library to provide some tracking or additional information so you can follow-up on where
that item is in the return cycle.
Remember that the Interlibrary Loan Code for the United States Explanatory Supplement guidelines
suggest that the Lending library send final bills for replacement of lost material no
later than one year after the final due date. So you will want to be communicating with
the Borrower if that item is indeed lost and get any billing done, if required.
So again, remember, you can Check-in and Complete something in the Returned/Complete? status.
You may also want to keep them in there as you are doing your problem resolution.
If you have any questions you can contact us at OCLC Customer Support. Thanks.
