My name is Andrew Cote. I'm a beekeeper in New York City.
Right now we are on the 20th floor rooftop of the famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
The bees have the Penthouse. And I am just here visiting.
I have about 50 beehives in New York City that I take care of.
I got them in Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and Manhattan.
Soon I'll conquer Staten Island as well.
My day usually starts before the sun comes up and I go from place to place.
I inspect the beehives, make sure the queen is healthy, that there are no diseases,
check to see that everybody is producing, everybody is happy.
I take complaints, I give advice and then I get into my car and I whisk off to the next one.
It may be selfish but I find working with the bees provides me with a great connection to nature.
I really need these bees and they don't need me at all, and I know that.
I don't mean that I do live in harmony with nature in New York City. I mean that I would like to.
This is my little box of calm and it may seem ironic, that my box of calm is a box of 70.000 flying stinging insects. But it is.
