I'm Larry Marble. We're in the Z Tags booth at the National Cattlemen's Beef Association
in windy, cold Denver, Colorado. I'm with Larry Jefcoat from Soso, Mississippi.
Now it's Soso because why? Everything's just "so-so".
Everything's just so-so. Now it's so so much better with Z Tags, isn't it?
It sure is. Now tell us a little bit about your operation
Larry. We've got a cow-calf operation and we run
a little over 100 mama cows. We keep tag numbers, keep ahold of which number belongs to which
cow so we can have a good culling program if we need to.
We put…we tag the calves at birth. We tag the bull calves with a yellow, a small yellow
tag. We've got the heifers with a large blue tag. If we keep the heifers, they've got a
permanent tag in their ear already. Now that permanent tag you like a lot with
your heifers because you use that good Z Tag marker to mark it with.
Correct. Put the number on, and it fits my herd number.
I understand that you like it because it stays in that ear.
Retention. That's right. Now, tell us a little bit about the country
you have down there and why that's important. Do you have any brush?
Yeah we have brush, we feed round bales of hay with the string on it so they lose tags
that way if you're not careful. That's right. The main thing that Larry tells
me is the two different colors. He likes that writer. You see that from way far away. You
got the little tags for the steers, big tags for the heifers. He knows it's permanent,
he's going to keep it. Now what sets you apart from the other producers
in your area as far as your operation? We keep all our calves. Which calf belongs
to which cow so we can cull those cows if they need to be. See what the weight of the
calves are and the production of the calf. And Z Tags helps Larry keep those records.
Right. Now, I want you to show me how easy it is
to work one of these tags. Now you use a big or a little one, which one would you like
to use? It doesn't matter.
I'll tell you what, take that right there, and set that up just like you would out there
on the farm and I'm going to pretend this is a calf's ear and you're going to mark it
for me, ok? Go ahead. Go ahead. That old cow jerks, the tag still
stays in. So in Soso, Mississippi, Larry and all his neighbors use Z Tags. Larry, thanks
for being on Z TV. Thanks a lot.
We appreciate you. [music]
