What do you think of GE vs Kenmore freezers? I don't know which one to get.
Chest freezers are more efficient than upright freezers. That's one advantage of sitting
there like a big brick.
That barely makes up for nearly falling in for trying to get items off the bottom of
a chest freezer. But GE chest freezers have a good reputation, since they average four
stars or higher on most sites.
They need freezer alarms. They tend to have electrical problems, and one glitch will cost
you the money it takes to replace the food in the freezer.
I thought GE freezers had freezer alarms.
Some do, and some don't. But GE is nice enough to offer freezer alarms for sale for the models
that don't already have them.
That sounds more like an admission that you need one.
Or possibly that they want to make more money off you. After all, they'll happily sell back
up to the backup batteries and duplicate cozies for cell phones.
GE doesn't make cell phones.
They make almost everything else, from MRI machines to jet engines. But their freezers
are average.
What about Kenmore freezers?
Kenmore has higher reliability than GE.
Says who?
Consumer Reports. While the average Kenmore freezer needs to be fixed every ten to twelve
years, the average GE needs to be fixed every six to eight.
Is there anything I need to know about Kenmore freezers, kind of like how I need a freezer
alarm for a GE freezer?
It depends on the model. Some of the Kenmore chest freezers have one star reviews, while
others manage three or five stars.
From nothing to everything -- that's a heck of a range.
So check the reputation of the individual Kenmore freezer. And not the salesman, since
he'll say they are all great.
