For cleaning the machine, this is something that you want to do on a regular basis. We
say every 2 to 3 bobbins worth. You want to get in, take this plate off and clean out
underneath. We're only talking about cleaning, on the Husqvarna Viking there is no oiling
that needs to be done. That is done only by your dealer in certain areas.
We're going to start off by taking the bobbin out, [plaid 00:00:24] the door off and lift
the bobbin out. The machine is threaded now, so instead of pulling the spool up and dragging
the thread all the way back up through the machine, what I would recommend, take your
scissors, clip the thread up at the spool and pull all the thread down and out the needle.
Why? Because if you've got a lot of length built up down here and you drag that up through
your machine, that's just not going to be fun for the machine at a later time. You would
want to keep that length always coming this way and not backwards.
Next, you're going to need your screwdriver, it doesn't matter which side. You can lift,
we can put it right underneath this little corner at the middle throat plate and just
lift up. You can do it over here too. We're going to lift that up. Another thing I'd like
to do is actually take the foot off, and the needle out. Use your same screwdriver, in
that way nobody's going to get stabbed as they get inside here.
Next you're going to lift up this small area. It is loose. It's just kind of a U-shaped
cover. Put that aside, and then you can reach in here and this is your bobbin case. As you
will find, there will be a lot of length that would gather up inside and underneath this
area, that little part that goes around. Let me go ahead and show you if I can, yep, we
can. There's a little hook or sharp point right in here. You're going to notice that
as I take one full stitch, that little basket travels 2 times around just to make one stitch
of your machine. There's a lot of action going on there, flannels, plisses, all that minky
and cuddle fabric are very lengthy so we want to get in there and clean that out.
With the machine, you have a small little brush. The more you clean the less that it
builds up and goes into all those extra places. One thing that we do not recommend, do not
use canned air. Canned air is going to blow more in then out and it will be not good for
all the moving parts that are further in your machine, so just avoid that. Another thing
you can use is your [inaudible 00:02:19] and I always keep with me. All I have to do is
do a quick little swish and out comes all the length which is ideal. Another thing you
can use is those miniature vacuum attachments that clean out things like keyboards for computers.
Those are excellent for sewing machines, they fit on to hose vacuums and then you're ready
to go just suck it all out, and that's ideal.
Back for assembly, we're ready to put our bobbin case back in. You will find that these
2 little points are going to head towards your needle area and it really just sits down
there one way. It is a little loose. It kind of wiggles back and forth about a quarter
of an inch. That's correct. The small U-shaped cover goes on next. Just put that small little
part down even with the machine and then just set it flat. You'll notice that it will be
flush when it's done correctly. The throat plate goes on next. This line up the part
on the back, the little *** with the part on the back of the machine behind the foot.
When that's in a position there, take your 2 fingers and push down firmly on the front
part. Look, no screwdriver or no screws to take out this. It's really easy to pop it
up, clean it out and be ready to go with our fresh machine.
We'll put the bobbin back in, click that in. We'll cut it there. We'll put the cover back
on first and then press your foot on then needle. Do you know why? It's a lot easier
to know where that needle is going to go up when the presser foot is there to place the
point down and then just go ahead and slide that up. Put in a new needle in of course
as you find ... you have cleaned the machine I'm sure it's probably time to change that
and you are ready to go. We just need to thread up the machine and off to sewing we go.
