I'm Dr. Matheson Harris.
I'm with Utah Oculoplastic Consultants.
We're in Salt Lake City on 44 south and 7th east.
We're in a beautiful building, the Rocky Mountain Eye Center,
which is a facility of just eye
specialists and eye doctors.
And we're the single plastic surgeons in the building.
We've been here for 30 years.
Dr. Branson Call, my partner, started out in Salt Lake City
back in the late '70s and has years and years of experience
in what we do as oculoplastic plastic surgeons.
Most people have never heard of oculoplastics.
And, basically, what it is is a combination of an eye
surgeon and a plastic surgeon.
So it's a surgeon who first learned how to operate around
the eyes, and then later did special fellowship training in
plastic surgery, just in the face, especially around the
eyes, eye sockets, forehead and the upper mid-face.
So it's important that you find a surgeon who is
specially trained in oculoplastics when you have
surgery in this area because we spend a lot of time
learning exactly how the eye works and how the eyelids
support the function of the eye.
In that way we can tailor our surgery to make sure that when
we're improving your appearance or improving the
function of the eyelids, we keep the eye, first and
foremost, which our eyesight is so precious, no one wants
to lose that.
And we don't want to have our surgery cause any
problems with it.
We only want it to enhance the function of your eyes.
I love my job as an oculoplastic surgeon.
I love being able to bring in patients who have something
about their appearance, or have some problem, whatever it
may be, that they're having trouble with.
I can look at them, we can go through a consultation and
examination, I can discuss with them their options--
whether they be conservative or more
advanced including surgery--
and we can formulate a plan together that can lead to
great results.
The best part of my job is seeing someone come in totally
incapacitated by their problem, or extremely
uncomfortable or embarrassed by their appearance, whatever
it may be and, through our consultation and examination,
and then finally our plan, executing our plan, whether it
be surgery or other treatment, seeing them then come out a
different person.
Either with improved appearance or better function
of their face or eyelids.
Any of those things.
It's so gratifying to see the changes that can happen with
the work we do.
