I've always wanted to be a teacher.
When I was young...
I knew I wanted to be a teacher and I told my Mom.
Mom... that's wonderful thing you want that,
But you need to take up into consideration that one,
it's hard to find a job because of my disability.
I became something else until I realized
I have potential.
I went back to school, studying, and became a teacher.
When I see the students all excited about learning
this language and the culture,
and every year most of the kids become more respecful.
It excites me.
Don't count the days. Make the days count.
It gives me goose bumps when I see my students really doing well
signing like this class.
Morning bird eats worm.
Deaf people have trouble understanding hearing people's idioms and expressions.
You will have trouble with deaf expressions, too.
Called mental....mental scar.
What does that mean to you?
No, that's not what it means.
No. She kind of got it.
Something that happened to you that you would never forget
are mental scars.
I try to teach the kids that being deaf is really nothing.
I mean, of course, for someone like yourselves
who woke up in the morning and became deaf,
it would be devastating for you because you've already heard things.
But for me, I grew up that way.
It doesn't bother me.
So when they go out into the world
and they see deaf people and they'll feel, "Oh cool."
Not, "Oh..." Their facial expressions, they're sad.
"They can't hear...oh...."
That's how these people were before they met me.
We shouldn't be scared of deaf people because they're regular people just like me.
It's like when you speak to her, she understands almost everything you say.
And it's like she is deaf and it's like amazing
to see a person like that being a teacher.
And like a mainstream school that we all go to
and there's not even one deaf person in the school.
So it's like yeah, she's an inspiration to everybody.
Holy cow!
Holy cow!
Look at my bill! Look at my phone bill!
Over $500! Holy cow!
I love this class and everyone in it.
I can't ask for a better career.
It's a great job. I'm hoping deaf kids when they grow up, become teachers.
Teach this class.
