Helllo Lovelys, Welcome to my Mousechannel.
Todays Video is going to be all about mice as pets :)
And I hope by the end of the video you know if mice are the right pets for you :)
I myself have had mice for a moth now and probably had the same questions before that
you may have. In this video I'm trying to answer them by
using all the information I found. So let's get started.
First off I'm going to give you the most important facts :)
Mice are small rhodents and they could get up to 11cm long plus the size of the tail.
They use it to balance themself while climbing and as you can see they are really into that.
Their natural habitat has always been close to humans, because they live in cellars, attics
and on farm, where they eat all kinds of cereal, but also
other things they find which makes them omnivores. That means the foodoptions you give them should
be really varied. The most important aspect is that mice always
live in small groups so you should never hold them on their own.
They are really social and communicate alot so you should not put them through the stress
of being on their own. The minimum to get is two and I would suggest
females. That they are so social also means that you
can tame them pretty easy. Mine were okay with walking on hand after 3 weeks. So a group
doesn't hold them back from being tame.
So here is the cage with my mice:) Because it is 9 am, they won't be awake much
longer, cause mice are crepuscular and nocturnal. It's 100cm wide and 40cm deep.
And it should be at least as big as this. But bigger is never a problem when it comes
to animalcages I guess. So for the floor you need woodshavings and
they come in different variants, you could also get those cat litter alike
rhodent bedding. And that is obviously your choice and the
mice would get along with each material. Underneath the bedding I always put old Newspaper,
so everything stays in place. Than you need hay as nest material and I also
offer them ripped tissue paper. Instead you could also get hamster bedding,
or as a more safe option, the cotton bedding. So than you have everything for the bedding.
Next up is the hiddingoptions. I use boxes from the supermarket, which are
really easy to get. To make it easier for my mice I tend to fill
them up with hay. What the boxes also do is they create more
space. And of course you can get them those little
wood houses :) Over there I placed a flower pot, which is
also filled with hay and they like to sleep in it.
A mixture of play and sleeping option are those little balls that I hung up with some
coconutribbon and they like to use the top one to sleep in.
Then instead of those whaterbottles I would use such a ceramic bowl, not because the bottle
is bad for them, but it creates loud noises and you should change the whater daily anyway.
But that is just personal preference.
Than you could also place some stuff from your house, for example such a toilet paper
roll or this packing material that they like for climbing.
I think you can't go wrong when you always offer different options.
So this one got out as you can see, because I didn't close the cage, but anyway.
Hello cutie. So here is the cage from another perspective.
Those branches that you see right here are from the woods which is a really cheap option
to get some climbing stuff from. So I change the setting once a week.
And I clean the cage a little bit every other day and than once a week I nearly change all
the bedding. Nearly so that the groupsmell won't go away. And you also should take care
of that.
Now it's time for the feed. So this is the basic one I use and I got it
from where I got the mice and they were fed with the same stuff there.
I always spred it aroud the cage so they are entertained by gathering it.
Per mice you should feed around 10g. And here I have this (a little bit dirty)
box with vitamin pills. But you should go for the liquid option because
it's easier to feed them. But mice don't even need a vitamin additive,
veggies and fruits are better. Than for snack they really like those dry
mealworms, and they would also eat them alive, but that is up to you.
And also you should be aware that everything with proteins leads to a more intense smell.
Next up I got cat food. They like it but you should feed this only rarely. And think of
the odor. Here I have those drop you can get almost
everywhere. I like to cut them in little pieces and hide them in the cage, but they contain
a lot of sugar so be aware of that. Then I got them this chewing bread.
They are really hard, which is good, because rhodendteeth grow endless.
As I mentioned I spreed the food in the cage. this basic one on daily bases and the other
things every once in a while. To tame them I would suggest to feed them from your
hand so they build trust. I will link the websites that I used for information
in the infobox (they are german) and I hope I helped you out :)
Stay tuned.
