My memories with the Sayyed, Hajj Hani Abdullah; ep. IV
I remember the Sayyed in the difficult and tough wartimes
It was in the last days of the Lebanese Civil War,
and everyone knew that the Sayyed insisted on going to Imam Ar-Rida (a.s.) Mosque in Bir Al-‘Abd
to recite the Kumayl Supplication by himself
One day, on a Thursday night, the bombing on the region was intensifying,
especially over Haret Hreik and Bir Al-‘Abd
and at the same time, bombs were shelled randomly around the Sayyed’s house and the Mosque
Despite the aggravating situation, His Eminence told his escorts that he wanted to go to the Mosque,
so they felt surprised and wondered how they could go amidst all that bombing,
but His Eminence insisted: “Upon Allah, we shall rely.”
I remember that the Sayyed did go to the Mosque, at a time no one was expecting him to come
His Eminence entered into the mosque
and he found 25 young men of the believers who used to frequent Imam Ar-Rida (a.s.) Mosque in Bir Al-‘Abd daily
When His Eminence reached the Minbar, while the bombs were being released haphazardly outside,
he said to the attendants: “O young men, I derive my strength from you,”
to make them feel that their presence in the mosque is the main reason that drove him to come,
knowing that he insisted on going to the mosque whatever the circumstances were
As for the Zionist wars, such as the “Grapes of Wrath” and “Settling of Accounts”,
everybody knew that His Eminence refused to leave the people under all circumstances
In these two tough wars, many nearby locations and centers in Haret Hreik and near the Sayyed’s mosque were massively bombed
yet he insisted on staying with the people and not leaving them, although many of them left the region
Even during the internal wars, when Ad-Dahiya used to be bombed and massively destructed,
he insisted on not leaving the people
For example, in the second day of July war 2006,
I said to His Eminence that this war seemed alarming, dangerous, huge and comprehensive,
and that he had to go to Ash-Sham, for the neighborhood was most likely to be destroyed
He looked at me in awe, as if he were telling me:
You do not know who I am, and you are not aware of my stands
At the end, he said to me: I do not leave the people. Never!
The Sayyed never left the people
Even when almost all the people left Ad-Dahiya Al-Janoubiyya, he remained in it
Everybody knows that His Eminence was in the nearby mosque when his house was destroyed by two consecutive Zionist raids
The men who were with the Sayyed said that when the buildings near the mosque were collapsing,
while the Sayyed was inside the mosque, they felt the rising dust,
yet, His Eminence never blinked and was filled with a feeling of extraordinary tranquility and strength
He never left the people, not even in wartimes
He always repeated his famous statement:
My point of strength is the love people hold for me and my point of weakness is my love to the people
