In this video we will demonstrate how to restore some of the standard desktop icons to the Windows 8 desktop.
Right-click anywhere on the open space and select Personalize.
Click on Change desktop icons.
Here we can select which icons we would like to appear on the desktop.
Since the start menu button is no longer there, you may want to add some of these.
You might add the Computer, User files, and possibly the Control Panel icons.
We'll select these and click the Apply button.
Click OK.
Close the window and now we have the Control Panel, Computer, and User file icons on the desktop.
Now we can easily open the familiar computer view by clicking on the icon.
If you want to remove one of the icons, we can reverse the process. Right-click and select Personalize.
Click Change desktop icons.
Simply uncheck the ones you no longer want.
We'll remove the Control Panel and User icons.
Click the Apply button and then OK
Now only the Computer icon is on the desktop.
That completes this demonstration of how to place familiar icons back onto the desktop.
This can be particularly useful since the Start Button is no longer there.
