In Gabi’s song, the one you play: "Tô solteira"
It is only mi.
But there is a time when it goes...
Yes there is, it is: C, C, A flat.
C.
C.
A.
Again.
Here I go.
I’m going to make you a little question, Gabi.
Where did you grow up?
Where do you live?
And how does that impact you?
I grew up in the expensive Jurunas district.
A district in the outskirts of Belém.
I believe it is the most musical district there,
because there is a lot of equipment,
many little bars, plenty of small, noisy night clubs.
In front of my house there used to be a bar called “Brega’s Bar.”
So I would wake up listening to the “flash brega” folks,
listening to Juca Medalha, listening to some great folks.
All I am, Everything I know of music...
My family had a samba school.
And I always liked electronic music.
I had a neighbor who had equipment in his backyard.
He used to play house, hard beat:
I would go mad with that.
And I grew up listening to it.
So, I think my musical background has a lot...
I think that if I didn’t live,
had I not been born and brought up at Jurunas,
I wouldn’t have had all this musical influence.
What about you?
Now tell me a little too.
I was born in Olinda, which is also a very musical city in Pernambuco.
And who influenced me a lot, other than my dad,
was a neighbor called Mr. Pinininho.
He was a police snitch.
He was quite a character.
Mr. Pinininho.
And he used to go to the small noisy night clubs a lot and had a Carnival group,
one of those huge dolls, that is the Day Woman,
who is the wife of the Midnight Man.
Those are the two strongest icons among the dolls there.
And on Thursday he would go to the night club.
He would put a pair of pants on with a very well pressed crease.
He would wear a purple satin shirt,
with a hat that had a small parrot feather on it.
What a character.
He would only go back home on Monday, wasted.
Then he would listen to depressing songs through Thursday.
But, as Thursday approached, that would change.
A lot of music came from Belém, through a label.
Called Gravasom.
Gravasom, wow.
Those were musicians from Belém who were influenced by the scene...
From Guiana.
From Guiana, the Caribbean...
And they would record versions.
And my dad listened to the Beatles, Rolling Stones, at home,
Several other things. A lot of Brazilian pop.
So I was brought up a little on that.
At 15, I started to...
Mr. Pinininho died and his family moved away.
And I felt empty without that music.
And, instinctively, I started looking for it in used record shops
the vinyls that he used to listen to at home.
And little by little, I started playing that at parties friends threw.
I started working as a DJ.
I was always very fond of using a microphone at my disco gigs.
Then, one day, China and a few friends saw me improvising and said:
"This girl has some ideas, some great humor.
Let’s take her to the studio."
It was a home studio. A "protoolzinho".
And we started to record the first songs.
How long ago was that?
More or less two years, only two and a half years ago.
Oh, this was recent.
That I thought of singing.
I like to say I’m somewhat an MC.
I am single today
The sweat on your body Makes me crazy,
Crazy for you.
You know what I need You, here with me,
Making me happy
In your smile, I fly away, I wander in my mind,
Your kiss lights me up.
You know what I need, So, stay with me
I need to love you.
When homesickness consumes me I yell your name
When homesickness consumes me I yell
When homesickness consumes me I yell your name
When homesickness consumes me I yell
Gabi
Catarina
Let’s go for a stroll.
Let’s go get a Martini.
I am single today
I am single today too
So?
I am always single
The sweat on your body Makes me crazy,
Crazy for you
You know what I need You, here with me,
Making me happy
In your smile, I fly away, I wander in my mind,
Your kiss lights me up.
You know what I need, So stay with me
I need to love you
When homesickness consumes me I yell your name
When homesickness consumes me
When homesickness consumes me I yell your name
When homesickness consumes me
I yell
Catarina
And I yell Gabi
My goddess of Ebony,
of açaí.
Olinda and Belém do Pará.
Warming up.
To enchant you.
Get one here, now.
Let’s see.
I hope it will not compromise me.
No.
What was the last type of music that impressed you?
And what is the most recent thing in Brazilian music?
Wow.
The last type of music that impressed me.
I am a little addicted to Cidadão Instigado,
which is a band I’ve been following for a long time.
In Brazilian music, it is something that has come on strong.
With something new, matured.
And what I enjoyed the most?
There is a band, also of electronic music
of some boys who use the octagonal guitars: the Ratatat.
I like them a lot too.
I have been listening to some new guitar things there too.
There is a new La Pupuña album that is very nice.
I’ve heard about La Pupuña.
La Pupuña does a somewhat surf music and progressive guitar stuff
that is real nice.
Let me get you one.
What do you think of me?
Do I really have to answer that?
We met at the Off Feira Circuit.
At the concert we do.
I arrive there and there is a woman with a light game thing.
Very colorful. And I love colored stuff.
I saw her preparing that scenario and said:
"Man, what is that crazy girl doing over there?"
And your music is very smart,
Because, in addition to your having a great voice, you have a new proposal,
which is your position.
And you do some things. You fool around, you make fun of people, so,
I think you also need that in music.
You are daring, and you like to get some “gum”
and putting it on your things.
Can I also talk, about you?
Sure.
In addition to your charisma, beauty and music, you are an amazing singer.
I was impressed.
You say you have been singing for fifteen years.
We have already lined up a few other things, other projects.
You can be sure we will do a few things.
You will already be in my new album.
We are people, right? Of flesh and bone and heart.
A mother, a hard-working woman.
Bed and board.
And likes nightlife.
