Hey everyone, It's Izak Jackson with Brink Online, and
you're watching Brink Weekly.
On this week's show, Sony launches a new studio, Snapchat buys Bitmoji and Blizzard releases
Pixar-like animated short.
Sony has announced the launch of a new game development studio called ForwardWorks.
The studio is specifically going to be developing games for smartphones, focusing on bringing
PlayStation IPs to mobile.
In a press release, Sony said that:
"ForwardWorks will leverage the intellectual property of the numerous PlayStation dedicated
software titles and its gaming characters as well as the knowledge
and know-how of gaming development expertise which was acquired over the years with PlayStation
business to provide gaming application optimized for smart devices including smartphones to
users in Japan and Asia. "
In other news, Snapchat is rumoured to have purchased
Bitstrips, the creators of Bitmoji.
Bitmoji is a mobile app that turns its users into emojis
that they can send to their friends.
Snapchat has most likely made this purchase in order to add new features to their mobile
app, following on from the very popular facial features they recently added.
When reached for comment, a Snapchat spokesperson declined to comment on the purchase.
Finally, Blizzard has released a Pixar-like animated short
for their upcoming first-person shooter, Overwatch.
The animation, titled Recall, gives us some insight into the
backstory for one of the games heroes, Winston, a cybernetic gorilla scientist who plays another
Blizzards game, Hearthstone.
Overwatch is slated for release on the 24th of May and will
be available on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
