[Left speaker] Every since I've become a vegetarian I've looked to PETA for advice,
you know, and how, and how to be vegan [laughter]
[Music (guitar starts)]
[Right speaker] Yeah, [inaudible] not preaching to the quire, and making really making an
effort to go out and talk to people.
[Music gets louder]
[Left speaker] Right out of high school I decided I was going to be a vegetarian. I,
I was a vegetarian for maybe, six to eight months then I went vegan. I started thinking,
''well I'm not eating meat because I don't like to contribute to factory farming, and
I don't want to harm animals, and if I eat cheese- doesn't really make any sense- I
have to go for the whole thing''.
[Right speaker] I remember having a clear, understanding of kind of like, wait- the animal
equals the meat-equals the super market. Put in that whole kind of like that whole triangle
together like, live animal lives, and then there's a piece of meat.
[Left speaker] Styrofoam.
[Right speaker] wrapped with (yeah) Styrofoam wrapped over it. Yeah that's not the same.
What is that? And there I was kind of like "mom, do you know that, that is that, there
is no other explanation, that is that right"?
[Left speaker] Yeah.
[Right speaker] Okay. And that is when I was just like, walk away. [Inaudible]
[Left speaker] That is an animal.
[Voice] Because meat is filthy and bloody!
[Left speaker] I mean I was a vegetarian and I didn't even-none of my friends were vegetarian,
and I just sorta' you know, [inaudible] and Ian [inaudible] He would start reading little
things and he'd be like "cool, he's a vegetarian to, cause I was thinking about being a vegetarian.
That's awesome"! And when you see something like that you're like, "alright, I know
I can do it".
[Right speaker] YEAH! That would be great
[Left speaker] I remember hearing a song by propaganda, and there was a line like, "meat
is still ***, dairy is still ***". Must have been in like tenth grade. And I was just
like, "hold on, I know meat is ***, I don't eat meat, but ***''? And it just sorta' clicked
and I was like "Ah I shouldn't [inaudible] I shouldn't ...Ed Templeton, is one of the
main reasons' both of us are vegan.
[Right speaker] Yeah. [Left speaker] we didn't even know each other, but we were both into
skate boarding and music, so we'd read and listen to interviews. You know? He was a vegan
and as a kid, we were like, "whoa! That's awesome." He was both our favorite skate boarder,
so...it's cool. No we've gotten' to work with him and he's taken photos of us and
we're actually collaborating on a shoe with him. He designed a shoe with doing colors
on it, and doing other stuff.
