Hi my name is Martin from SIRS-Electronics
And today I would like to talk to you about the differences between
Open source DMX USB Interfaces and close source DMX USB Interfaces.
The main difference between the two is whether they are
Compatible with some of the software's and all that type of stuff.
Let's begin with the open source style DMX USB interfaces.
For example we got the ENTTEN USB PRO MK2 and we got the ENTTEC USB PRO.
These two interfaces they are open source interfaces
Which means they are not subject to just one particular DMX software.
They could use with a different variety of
DMX software's that are open source style software's.
For example, there is MADRIXs software which is a
Combination of close source and open source.
This program it does have its own interface but at the same time
It could be use with a variety of open source interfaces;
Such as the ENTTEC USB PRO and the ENTTEN USB PRO MK2.
Also these interfaces they could be use with free stiller
Software which is a free DMX program which all these interfaces could be use with.
The other popular program that is an open source
Type of program is also the light factory software.
That one as well could be use with these open source software's.
The only drawback that I would see when it comes to
Configuring an open source software that open source interface.
Is that there are some settings that you have to setup on your own.
So if you are not really familiar on how to select
This interface in the program and things like that
It may be a little difficult at first but it's really not a big deal.
The other type of interfaces we got here are close source interfaces
These interfaces were built and design to work with their own program
Such as here we got the Sunlite Suite2 which comes
With its own software and the way this works pretty
Much you install the software on your computer plug-in
Your interface and it'll recognizes it right away.
There is no really programming between the two to set anything up
So it pretty much works right off the box it's a plug and play system.
The other software that we talk about earlier
And the other interface it's the MADRIX NEO.
This MADRIX NEO interface works with the MADRIX
Software as well but it also has the option of close source.
This interface was particularly design to work with MADRIX software
So you can plug them in and it recognizes each other right away.
There is no much setting up or anything to be done and it's a plug and play option
So it works fine right out of the box. So the main differences
Between DMX and USB interfaces are that you got
The close source and you got the open source.
And we talk about the main drawbacks which is
Configuring the open source making sure they
Connect each other with the programs and the close source
Which they are meant and built for the program they come with.
That's pretty much it when it comes to the
Open source and close source interface and thanks for watching.
