I played college basketball at Belmont University.
I was the captain of the first team that Ever made it to the NCAA tournament.
I had an opportunity to play in the NBA developmental league.
I got my master's degree from Tennessee State In Sports Administration.
Which brings me here to Columbia State.
I am Brian Collins, 2012-2013 Head Coach of the
Columbia State Chargers.
I am Bridget Goodnight Head Women's Basketball Coach
At Columbia State Community College Lady Chargers.
We want to be competitive on the floor,
but also in the classroom.
and represent Columbia State in a positive manner
This is an exciting time for the Columbia State Basketball Team.
The program itself has been doing so many positive things coming off a trip to Hutch last year
finished sixth in the country.
We have five guys back off that team, two starters,
and very excited about bringing those guys back, those guys that understand what it takes to be a champion
And the pieces we already have coming back, it should be an exciting year.
Our number one priority, of our student athletes is to be productive citizens off the floor.
And I think that starts with being able to take what we do, with in our sport,
and equipping them so that they are ready for life after basketball.
The first this you have to stress to these kids are academics.
Student Athletes have to graduate with a 2.5 GPA to go on to a Division I school.
I want to see all my guys graduate with an Associate's Degree in 2 years.
You have to
take care of the class room. It is by far the most important part.
Once a student graduates from high school,
they become an adult, so they are going to be treated like an adult in our Women's Basketball Program.
They are going to be expected to be on time, without someone waking them up.
Expected to be where they are supposed to be when they are supposed to be there.
You know, not very much parent involvement at this point.
We want to make sure, that once they leave Columbia State, they are prepared,
to be productive citizens in life.
The opportunity to come in, get a top of the line education.
As well as come in and play on the National Jr College level
of Division I, the highest level.
And then go on, and leave here with your Associates Degree.
And have a chance to get your bachelor's degree here.
Everything I put my guys through, I've been through already times ten.
So, I have a good idea what I'm talking about.
