I'm from China and I study before I came here I study in China Campus - Blue Mountains China
Campus. Question: Do you enjoy the mixture of practical
and theory at Blue Mountains? It's quite interesting, you do the practical,
especially mix the practical and theory, you can get the point about what you have to do
quickly and you get used to that fast. Question: Does practical learning prepare
you better for the industry? Just as an example, when I was doing my placement,
I get used to the working environment very fast and learning much quicker than others
who were also new there. Question: How useful is the industry placement
during your studies? I've done 2 industry placements in China.
The first one is Intercontinental and I worked as a Food & Beverage attendant. The 2nd time
is in Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao in Guest Services as an operator. The placement helps you get
more experience in the hospitality. You cannot get that knowledge from the books. You have
to work and improve your communication skills very fast.
Question: How important was it for you to be able to come to Australia?
I think it's very important for me to come to Australia because everyone knows the Hospitality
Industry in Australia. It's quite nice and if you want to be more professional and learn
more about Hospitality you had better come here and do the studies.
Question: Did you choose Blue Mountains because it is an international school?
Yes I chose this school because it's an International school. We can learn more from an International
school - better than from a local one. Question: Tell us about your life in Sydney?
The life here is quite comfortable even though we have a lot of work to do every day. But
you don't have any pressure, like you are enjoying your life everyday even though you
are just working it makes you feel relaxed. Question: Do you have many international friends?
Yes I do have lot of friends here. They are from Indonesia, Vietnam or Australian or like
Mexican. Yes. Question: Are international contacts & friends
important to you for your career? Yes it's very important that you learn different
cultures in hospitality because hospitality is like a global industry that you have to
learn about different cultures. So when you are doing service to the customers you can
quickly catch their point and what they like, to offer better service to them.
