Now next to budget, time line is probably going to be the most important aspect of your
recording project. Now the reason for this is that things tend to take a lot longer than
you think they will when you're recording an album. Now you need to have some flexibility
and be generous with the amount of time that you're going to give this project. For example,
in the writing stages, if you already have the songs written, it might be easier to say,
okay here are the songs we're going to put on the album. If you haven't written any songs
yet, you need to give yourself some time to write those tunes. Only you will know how
quickly you produce music. So say you average a song a week and you want to record an album
that has twelve songs on it, you've got to give yourself twelve weeks to write this album,
because if you give yourself less than that, you might end up writing bad material by writing
it too quickly. So in that instance, you're already three months down the line before
you enter the studio. Then you want to look at aspects how long it will take in the recording
studio. You might budget a day a song, or if your budget is small, you might try to
get two or three songs done in a day. And mastering as well. You might be able to get
three songs in a day during mastering, you might spend more time on that. But again,
look at your budget and you can make that assessment. Of course the more time you spend
on it, the better this disc will be.
