My name is Kyle Neubauer, my major is Mechanical Engrineering and I'm a senior. Right now we
are in the SAE Baja Shop and it's located in the EMS building. I decided to Join SAE
Baja because it's the closest thing that I can see to real world application of school.
You take the concepts you have in school, you get to apply them actually design something
that has to work and not fail. Then you get to go test it to see if it actually does not
fail. We get an engine donated to us and we have a set of rules that says the car needs
to be X amount of safe. Then we take that interpret it, build and design a car so a
lot of colaboration with a bunch of students that want something on the car to happen a
certain way. Then we bring all those things together and produce the car in house. Then
we go off and race it whether it be in Alabama or Wisconsin like this past year. We may not
have some of the resources of some of the other big schools, but we're still able to
compete at a top level with the other schools. We were able to win UW-Stout 4 year in a row,
so that really shows what we can bring even with a small amount of resources.
