Welcome to Team Me.
Hi, I'm Pad. We're looking again at Archetypes. There is a sense in which these Archetypes
each have a complementary opposite.
In real life, somebody who is led by the Archetype of Lover may find themselves drawn to those
who exhibit a strong Warrior trait. That doesn't mean that they will find each other easy to
get on with at all times. Sometimes, there can be real fireworks between them, but they
do seem to have a secret fascination, admiration, even a need for each other, for their counterpart.
Remember, that connection develops through likeness. People like people who are like
them, but passion comes from polarity, from difference between people. I'll say that again,
likeness creates connection, polarity breeds passion.
If we look at a moment at the different Archetypes, the six we've defined and start with the Sovereign.
Who is the counterpart to the Sovereign? It's the Mystic. The Warrior, who's the counterpart
to the Warrior? The Lover. Who then is the counterpart to the Sage? It is the Jester.
We'll look at those in a little bit more detail.
For now, let's just say that the Sovereign knows that by her command, she can make things
happen. She can utilize her position of authority. Yet, she has an admiration, a respect, for
the Mystic who also makes things happen, but does so almost magically just through his
influence. Both of them use power as a means to an end, but they do so in very different
ways.
The Warrior, for all his toughness and resilience, longs to find comfort in the arms of an adoring
Lover. She in turn admires the strength and the tenacity in him that she feels like she
lacks herself. She knows her own vulnerability and looks to the Warrior for protection.
Then, there's the Sage. The Sage may not suffer fools gladly, but he can still appreciate
the perceptive wit of the Jester and benefit from the lighthearted approach to life that
the Jester brings. The Sage, we can say, is sage enough to realize that there is such
a thing as the paralysis of analysis and that everybody needs a break from learning sometimes.
Likewise, the mature Jester does recognize the value of the Sage's outlook, that some
things do needed to be treated more seriously in life and that complete frivolity is not
actually that fulfilling.
There you have the six key Archetypes and their complementary opposites. Are you ready
