Hello, this is Governor Martin O'Malley. There's nothing more important to a
family than a good job, with decent wages, and benefits.
That's why job creation remains our number one priority.
Since January, together with businesses in every part of our state, we've been
able to create nearly 15,000 new jobs. But the most important job we
create is the next job.
But to create jobs a modern economy requires modern investments.
That's not an opinion that's a fact.
Modern investments like the ones we've been making together in school
renovation and construction, modern investments in rebuilding our roads,
our bridges, and our water infrastructure, and other capital investments in
community colleges in our four-year colleges. This year, with our triple-a bond rating,
We're actually supporting almost 15,000 jobs just in the construction
industry because of these important private jobs building up public goods.
Our President understands this dynamic.
You may have heard President Obama speak about his jobs plan the other night.
I thought I'd take just a couple of moments to tell you what this plan can
mean for job creation right here at home in Maryland.
In fact there are 19,000 reasons why the President's plan would
be a win for Maryland.
And that's the estimated 19,000 moms and dads that would be
employed because of it.
Employed in what sort of jobs? Employed as teachers. Employed as police officers
and firefighters. Jobs that modernize our schools and renovate our schools.
Jobs that rebuild our highways and our bridges, Jobs that help us revitalize our older
communities and neighborhoods.
Jobs creating that the architecture of innovation and economic growth
like Light Rail, high-speed rail and aviation.
The President's plan is a balanced approach to job creation based on a
simple principle, and that is that America wins when America creates jobs.
Let's get it passed and get it passed now. America can't wait.
