Hi have you ever wondered on the history of a toothbrush and how it originated. Well my
name is Michelle and I'm a dental assistant with Solutions and I'm going to explain to
you and give you a little history lesson on how the toothbrush originated. Before the
recorded history of the toothbrush, basically what people used to do is they used to use
a rag and soot and salts to brush their teeth. In order to keep it nice and clean they would
just put a rag on their finger, place salt on it and then just brush their teeth with
that. Then in seventeen seventy William Addison discovered a form of a toothbrush after he
was placed in jail. And then in seventeen eighty he was credited for the mass production
of a toothbrush. And then in eighteen fifty seven H and Wadsworth is the first to patent
the toothbrush, that actually came out with a toothbrush but it had actual bristles on
it, therefore it was better and easier to use. And then in eighteen eighty five the
first mass production of the toothbrush was originated and sold to the general public
so. Once again my name is Michelle and I'm a dental assistant with Solutions and I just
gave you a little history lesson on the toothbrush.
