Todd Asher: Hi everyone.
It's nice to be here today.
I'm Todd Asher with the Mayor's office of Media and Entertainment.
It occurred to me as I was on my way that there's two words
in my daily vocabulary that I use more than any others.
One happens to be "google."
The other one is "Bloomberg."
And I'll let you guess which one gets used more often.
Google is a committed partner to the city.
And we're very proud that they've build such a large presence here.
New York is home to almost 2, 000 digital companies
and thousands of artists,
and creatives,
the tech, finance, fashion, film, art,
and music scene converge in New York City like nowhere else.
New York is a great incubator and the products and ideas
that come out of these sorts of workshops and the businesses in New York
often spread to other parts of the country and the world.
We're looked at as a model for other cities.
Speaking with tech ad new media companies,
they often state that the reason
that they started their business in New York or came to New York
is so that they could be a part of the creative culture
and the vibrant arts community.
The energy of our city that comes from our diverse people.
And the dynamism that is New York is really the draw for them.
We have great creative talent in New York City.
And there's no better place to talk about the convergence
of arts and technology than in New York.
So I hope everyone enjoys the day
and to start it off I'd like to introduce Commissioner Kate Levin
who is the commissioner of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
Thank you.
