Here at Holyrood PR, we take our environmental responsibility seriously.
That means we were more than happy when new trade waste regulations for businesses were
introduced in January 2014. Far from being a burden, these changes were
a recognition of recycling efforts we had been making over many years and the chance
to do even more. Thanks to the law change, all scottish businesses
now have to separate plastic and metal waste so it can be uplifted for recycling.
However, the main reusable resource which passes through our offices in large amounts
is paper. That include newspapers, brochures letters
flyers and an endless stream of print-outs. Every piece of a4 paper we receive or print-out
is reused so that both sides are printed on. Once it has been used twice, every sheet is
sent along with the large amounts of newspapers and magazines we get through on a daily basis.
For many years our paper recycling contract has been with a local firm, "Changeowrks",
whose offices are less than half a mile from our own.
On average, we recycle two and a half tonnes of paper a year.
It's such a sensible arrangement that we know also use Changeworks to recycle our plastics,
glass, metal and organic waste. On top of that we also refil printer ink cartridges
where possible and recycle when we can't. And all of our unwanted computer, screens
and other hardware is taken to one of einburgh's municipal recycling centres.
Scottish winters can be unkind, however all the electrical heaters in our office are carefully
controlled by timers and thermostats to respond to the conditions, while helping us to be
as energy efficient as possible. We're a thirsty bunch, which meant that in
the past the kettle is constantly being switched on. So we invested in an innovative quooker
tap system. A safer and more energy efficient way to produce boiling water to drink on a
cup by cup basis. We're also looking at other innovations including
and infranomic heating and inflector window insolators.
With all these steps we are taking at Holyrood pr We are ensuring we are keeping our carbon
footprint to a minimum and being as energy efficient as possible.
