Nathaniell Brenes: Hi, my name is Nathaniell and this is One More Cup of
Coffee where we talk about online business, making money on the internet,
and financial independence.
Today is Day 23 of the video series where I teach you how to build a profitable
website on the internet for free and we're going to be moving along by talking about
visitor interaction and visitor engagement on your website.
So it's pretty early on, there are probably not a lot of people making
comments on your website, but if people do comment on your website you need to make
sure that you respond.
Also you need to make sure that you write your posts in such a way that engages the
reader, that encourages them to make
comments on your blog. There are a couple of reasons for this.
One, it encourages them to come back at a later date so if they ask you a question
or they make a comment they're going to come back and they're going to see what
you responded or what other viewers said when they responded.
It's going to make your visitor feel like they have a say in the website so it's
going to make them feel like maybe more like they're talking to a person,
they're not just looking at a piece of information like Wikipedia, they're talking to an
expert in the subject and they can come back with questions.
That's going to build that trust which is then again going to encourage them to
share and you're going to get more traffic to your website this way that hopefully it
will lead to more sales. Now on the other side the way Google looks
at your website, one they're seeing more people sharing it, they're seeing
more people coming back to it, but also if you get a lot of people commenting on your
site it's like getting people to write for your blog for free kind of because Google
doesn't distinguish between what's your written content and what's written
content in the comments.
So if you write 400 words but there are 20 people that commented and each person
writes a comment of - I don't know - 20 words, 50 words that's another couple of
hundred or a thousand words that you can have on your website totally for free
and Google's going to see that your webpage is constantly being updated with fresh
content, the Googlebots or Google spiders are going to come back and re-index your
pages more often, they're going to visit your site more often, Google's going to
see your site as a very relative source of information for whatever your niche is.
So to make sure our website is optimized for comments we're going to go to Settings
and Discussion.
What we're going to do is we're going to allow people to post comments on your
articles - that's checked, that's good - we're going to uncheck this and this
because these are annoying, they're basically just notifications telling you
when you link to other blogs or other blogs link to you.
We don't need those.
Commenter must fill out name and email - yes.
We don't want to check users must be registered, we don't want to automatically
close comments, we want to enable
threadness of comments. This is a matter of choice - if you don't
want your blog page to turn out really, really long then you organize it into pages.
I choose to just to leave it as one long page.
You can choose whether or not you get email notifications if anybody comments.
I have that unchecked because I will come back to the website frequently anyway so
I'll be able to see if anyone's commenting.
And then if these two were checked what that means is that they must fill out
information to make a comment but once they're an approved commenter or this one
down here means that they can make a comment without pre-approval.
So you see I'm logged in to the site, I'm already pre-approved, so it looks like that.
If we log out then the visitor will see this.
So once all that is set up that's primed and ready for people to make comments.
Now I want to show you this blog post I made, two actually.
If you notice down at the bottom
highlighted in red "Do you have any creative ideas you want to share about how
to decorate your room and furniture for cheap?
Let us know in the comments below." So that's encouraging people to make comments.
It's saying "Please make a comment,
I'm waiting for you to say something and I'll respond to it." It's okay, asking people
for their ideas - I mean that's what people do on the internet.
They just say their ideas or they make comments about what they think.
In a situation like this because there's no previous commenters they might be
hesitant or they might not think about commenting so this is going to give them
the go ahead saying like "Yes, totally cool, say what you think and we'll post it
on the blog." And you can see here it did the same thing here.
"Did you find a great deal or an awesome chair not featured here?
Let us know in the comments below." So
you don't always have to have the same formula "let us know in the comments
below" but the general idea is to end the post on a note like "Well, what do you
think?" and that's going to encourage people to comment.
Now I'm going to show you a post here that I commented on recently.
It's this infographic that I found on Google Plus and the subject matter isn't
important but look - the article's done and look at the scroll bar over here,
look at all this, those are all commenters
and you can see the author has responded to every single comment.
Look at all that information, that is massive, that's tons of comments, I can't
even know how many commenters that is - 50, 100 maybe - and then let's look for mine.
One thing you might want to think about doing is getting some kind of a special
comment system going depending on your niche.
Mine is Furniture for Teens so I don't think they're going to be looking to get
back links or links to their own website
but if you're in like some kind of web design or some kind of internet oriented
niche people are going to want to link back to their website so what you can do
is you can set up a kind of comment system where - this one has something called
Comment Log so it posts - along with your
comment it posts a link to your most recent blog post and then this one has
something that also links to my Twitter account so that's pretty cool.
So it makes me want to comment more because I think "Okay, well I can make
this comment" and I get a back link to my website so if people like what I have to
say then they might want to read what's on my website so I'm more likely to comment
on a website like this and there are different plug-ins that you can research
that encourage commenters to make comments because they get some sort of credit for it.
So that pretty much wraps up today. That's not a lot of work, it's more of discussion.
But still I hope you found the video useful. If you did please leave a Like, the video
series is almost done but you can still subscribe. I'm going to be posting more videos on
different stuff in the future. This one's still not done, we've got
a couple more videos, but I'll be sure to let you know when the video series
is officially over and we can wrap things up. If you have any questions or comments
about what I said to day go ahead and contact me at my social media links which
are in the YouTube description, check out the website at one mmorecupof-coffee.com
and I will see you in the next video.
Thanks for watching. Bye.
