Hello George. It's Poppy. How are you?
Good. You cold yet?
You know what? Not so bad. It could be colder.
It could be. Usually when we're out here on this thing, it's very cold and wet and rainy,
and it's not so bad today.
I know. Clearly, it's shining somewhere.
Yes. Somewhere, somehow.
It's the Monuments Men premiere, a story about a bunch of men on an adventure to save art.
And what a bunch of men! The Cloomeister, Matt Damon, Bill Murray... Could it get any better?
Imagine a world where every film is about to be destroyed, but you can save three. Which
ones would they be?
I think I would just only save one, and I think it would be Batman and Robin, the one
that I was in because I really think that people should be able to see how nutty our
society went for a period of time.
Okay. Can you expand on that? Why nutty?
-It's a terrible movie. -Okay.
It's called the worst film of all time, so...
Okay. Um, now you are obviously talented as we all know. I mean, you do pretty much about
everything. How do you keep your cool?
I drink a lot. I think drinking... That's for the kids at home. Try that. No, actually
I enjoy what I do, and I feel very lucky that I get to do it.
What would you say your top kind of piece of advice is when you're kind of dealing with
so many aspects? You're an actor. You're a director. You're a producer.
Right. Well, I like directing. Directing's more fun because you get to boss all these
other actors around, so that's fun. But they're so nice, there isn't really any work to it.
It's fun.
Did anybody stand out to you, or were they all very nice?
Well, Matt's a little tough. He's a little bit of a diva. You know that, though. But
the rest of them are pretty nice.
So George said you are a bit of a diva on set.
I'm sure he did. I'm sure he did.
But of course we don't believe him.
No, no. He was... No, I was a diva. It's true. I was uncontrollable. I threw raging temper
tantrums, and I smashed more than one trailer. It was really hard for George to work with
me. I just have these photographs of him from a long time ago, so he keeps putting me in his movies.
Very funny.
This is an amazing story. What did you learn most about from just reading about the monuments men?
Well, I didn't know the story at all, and I think most people don't, which I think is
pretty fascinating that Hitler stole that much art and hid it in salt mines all across
Austria, and I think that was sort of a fascinating story.
And lastly, there isn't many women in this movie, apart from the gorgeous Cate Blanchett.
Did you miss not having many women on set?
Yeah, we should have had. We'd just come... We'd just come from doing August Osage County,
so we had nothing but women around, so it was fine.
That's quite nice. Lovely to see you.
