How surprised was I to see a 128 GB Solid State Drive from Corsair in my mailbox today.
I was just, I didn't know what to think. I didn't think Corsair made Solid State Drives,
but apparently they do. And not only do they make any Solid State Drive,
they make a really good one, uh, pretty much following that basic, uh Samsung path
of a Samsung chips, Samsung controller. They've made a very, very good, uh,
Solid State Drive, at a great price. And, when I saw the specs on it
I was like, eh, you know their claimed read/write speeds weren't that incredible.
The best part is those specifications that they state on their box
are extremely conservative. This thing is much faster than they say it is.
Um, so, let's talk about this great little SSD Drive from Corsair.
Now obviously it is a 2.5'' Drive, just uses your regular old SATA on the back,
uh, right there. SATA power, SATA connectors.
Pretty much stick in any computer case with a 2.5'' - 3.5'' adapter, uh, or,
you can also stick it in a notebook, which is very useful, because
they are lighter, they are more power efficient, uh, they're faster,
they weigh less, they put a lot less heat out, uh, so they're generally,
extremely good for uh, for notebooks. For desktops, they're very fast.
You just load your OS on here. You don't need to go crazy, and use them to store, or,
buy a lot of them. Or buy a big one, with a large capacity. A 128 GB is more than enough
to load your OS, all your programs, and then, uh, some. Uh, and it's even better if
you can get a smaller one, and get multitudes of them, and,
use them in RAID. That gives you huge performance, especially,
with a RAID controller. Um, now, let's talk a little bit about those benchmarkers
I was talking about. Get this: Corsair claims 90/70 sustained read/write speeds.
OK. Pretty good, right? Better than most hard drives, about as fast as a VelociRaptor,
but writes a little better, um, than most SSD Drives. Good stuff.
Now, here's what I got. By the way, this is, uh, let me tell you real quick
what my system is: 64 bit vista, SP1, uh, quadra 7 with the ICD 10 stoppers chipset,
on a ACH motherboard, uh, this drive, no operating system on it,
just, threw it into the little caddy I had for Solid State Drives,
and then ran HD2 Pro on this. Just the regular benchmark.
I'm gonna give you minimum, maximum, averages, and then access time, and,
CPU utilization. Get these. So they said, remember, they said 90/70.
90/70, read/write. Here's what I got. Read Minimum. Minimum: 115. Maximum: 165.
That is very very good. Average: 156. Thank you for your enthusiasm Alfred.
Good job. Now, Write speeds. These are also very impressive, and again, better than
what they claim. They claim 70. I got a Minimum: 51. Maximum: 78. Average: 74.
So 4MB per seconds OVER what they claimed was the average write speed, and,
read speed, well, destroyed them. They said 90; this was 156. So literally, almost,
more than 50% faster than they said it was. Um, access time was .1ms and
3.1% CPU utilization, so that is all very very good stuff, and,
it's pretty. Not black. It's silver. And, uh, it says Corsair on it, and I like it.
And it's really nice metal, and it's shock proof, obviously, so there are
different notebooks, and uh, for computers.
Awesome drive. Good job Corsair. If you have any questions on it, email me.
I'll see you guys next time.
