[GIRL NARRATOR] We 7th graders have differences
with our families and our friends.
[NEW GIRL STUDENT] Hi, I'm new here.
I'm from Colorado.
[GIRL NARRATOR] Citizens in our town of Gettysburg
have differences.
Countries around the world have differences.
It is unavoidable.
So what would happen if we learned how to settle those
differences?
[BOY NARRATOR 1] John B. Gordon, he was one of Robert E. Lee's
most trusted Generals.
[BOY NARRATOR 2] Francis Channing Barlow -- Brigadier
General in the Union Army
[BOY NARRATOR 1] I think that the Barlow and Gordon incident
was very important to me and my
fellow students, because once people see this,
they'll be able to realize how important it is for people to
settle their differences.
[JOHN B. GORDON] The battle had been raging for
4 or 5 hours.
With a ringing yell, my command rushed upon the line posted to
protect the Union right.
Under the concentrated fire from front and flank,
the marvel is that any escaped.
Through a storm of bullets, a Union officer was seeking to
rally his men for a final stand.
[FRANCIS C. BARLOW] Charge!
[BOY NARRATOR 1] On the battlefield,
he saw Barlow get shot and taken down.
[GORDON] I discovered that brave officer lying upon his
back with the July sun pouring its rays into his pale face.
[GORDON] What happened to you?
[DINNER GUEST] Hello, Senator
[BOY 1 NARRATOR] Later on each person assumed that the
other one was dead.
That's why when they met 15 years later at the dinner party
they were so astonished when they saw each other.
[GORDON] Why sir, are you related to the Barlow who was
shot at Gettysburg?
[BARLOW] Why, I am the man, sir.
Are you related to the Gordon who shot me?
[GORDON] I am the man, sir Until Barlow's timely death in
1896, the friendship between us which was born amidst the
thunders of Gettysburg was greatly cherished... by both
[GIRL 1 NARRATOR] I used to be enemies with some people and
now I'm best friends with some of those people.
[NEW GIRL STUDENT] Oh my gosh, are you ok?
I got to know who they really were and that made me realize
they were good people, which made me want to be friends with
them then.
[NEW GIRL STUDENT] Hey, are you ok?
[BOY 2 NARRATOR] I think it's important finding the good in
each other, because if you don't that person could feel left out
and go down the wrong path.
