and idaho law baker is comparing abortion to prostitution now this is
representative ron many times and he's basically asking members of the ec l u
you know if they are supportive of reproductive rights and abortion does
that mean that they're also supportive of prostitution so i don't really know
how he leaks these two together i think that he was just bringing up the whole
question of choice
old one and have the choice to have an abortion and if that's the case isn't it
something where women should also have the choice to be prostitutes and the
a_c_l_u_ had a really act interesting uh... response to that but before i get
to that let me read you what the state representative set uh... of course he
got criticism for this he says it was just a question i did idea believe it's
a double standard
prostitution is a choice more cell an abortion would be
and the reason why i say now is because in some cases prostitution is not a
choice right
complex if we legalized and regulated prostitution
then it would be easier for it to be more of a choice now if you see what i'm
saying nam now
the a_c_l_u_'s responds
they're professionals and of course they have to point out the prostitution is a
legal but my issue with it was the fact that they said that they are not
supportive of prostitution and i know they said that because in its current
state prostitution is not necessarily a great thing because it's unregulated a
lot of women do get exploited because the prosecution but basically there are
two midwest well uh... reproductive rights are protected under the
constitution in fact roe v_ wade stated that yet but prostitution is something
that is illegal and is not not protected by the constitution right the and that
was their argument to this law makers of john what are your thoughts on this well
there are couple angles on this that i was a bit confused by when you have
usually talking about the story i would have guessed that there is still you
would have said would uh... prostitution is illegal but it shouldn't be
and then i love that uh... he brought this up because he was trying to catch
them sort of an ideological like
like inconsistency but if you ask me will should should prostitution that
situation that people legal to adelaide
that's the easiest will probably not the soft yeah but i don't really understand
the silliest position on this
i thought
for it seemed like in previous cases we may still you got involved in something
is because they're driven
primarily by principles about ideology not by
justin rooted hearings to legislation
right and yeah i think i think the reason why the a_c_l_u_ sent back is
because of the fact that in
*** activity today any prostitution today
there are cases where a woman does not have a choice you know they are
controlled by so-called hints and it could be a violent and abusive situation
and of course that's why i'm not try to make a blanket statement about all
prostitution that there are cases and take it i have discussed it you know in
detail on the show where when they make the conscious decision to be prostitutes
or prompt participate in the sex industry and they do so because they
genuinely want to be enjoyed it they don't see a thing and are morally or
ethically wrong with it may do it up but unfortunately we live in this religious
country that denies is people who want to do it so we don't legalize it and we
don't regulated regulating it is the important aspect yeah i i don't discount
the fact that that underlying
prostitution
somewhat in america but definitely not a countries there is the human traffic l
trafficking element
but i don't see that as like a philosophical point on why it should be
kept the legal we're not allowed to force people to do things it's legal to
play college football it's not legal to four some of the pro game
but that's the legal part and we can legalize prostitution still maintain the
sanctions like that i think anyway
um... but yeah i would she says that you know that
prosthesis currently illegal
you have there are things though that are legal that shouldn't be interracial
an airline happier or or slavery arent racial marriage with things like that
work if you're an ideological organization or you're trying to make
the country better it's not just below its it's a legal what we do
