Danielle here giving you the inside scoop on how I chose my major
it all started at Largo high school
Home of the Packers in the excel magnet program
Excel stands for exploring careers
in education and leadership the excel program has students from 9th to 12th grade
and specializes in classes
of leadership in this program
every student has to complete what's called shadowing two times a year to
pass the leadership classes
the leadership classes consist of freshman year peer counseling
sophomore year leadership junior year career exploration
senior year senior project
During my high school years I shadowed three different careers
I shadowed a pharmacist an insurance agent
a kindergarten teacher a first-grade teacher
a fourth grade teacher and sixth-grade teacher
As you can probably tell I figured out my dream job pretty early on into the
school year
becoming an elementary school teacher was what I found
I was most passionate about I continued to shadowed different grade levels
so I was able to see which age group i would want to teach
after I realized what I wanted to do I found a company called
Junior Achievement this company allows high school students to come and teach
elementary school kids about financial literacy and the importance of staying in
school I volunteered with junior achievement my entire junior and senior
year of high school and the summer before my freshman year of college my experience
truly helped me realize how much I loved working with kids
and how excited I was to begin my journey on becoming a teacher
the next question was where was I going to continuing my education on
becoming a teacher
after doing my research and talking to many different teachers
all signs pointed to the University of South Florida
home of the bulls
after attending the University of South Florida for almost a semester now
I know that I picked the perfect school for me and the career path
best suited for me thanks for watching and go bulls
