This is Zach with Expert Village and today I am going to talk to you about troubleshooting
your USB external storage device. Now sometimes when you have your device connected to your
computer, all of your connections will be plugged in fine. The power will be on but
you still might not see the icon on your desktop. There are a number of things that could cause
this. One problem could be that you might have ejected the device from your system earlier
and so it won't show up now anywhere in your system. The way to solve this is to simply
cycle the power by finding the power switch on the back of your hard drive and turning
the hard drives power off and then back on again and once it cycles through the power
cycle, your computer should recognize the drive again. Here it is. It showed up on our
desktop. Other reasons for it not showing up might be the cable was accidentally slipped
and unplugged and ejected the device improperly which is bad because without properly removing
the device from the system, data can become corrupted and you can even lose your whole
file system so it is always important to make sure that if you don't see your devices icon
but you are sure that it is plugged in and you can hopefully figure out why your device
isn't showing up. If it's just because you ejected it earlier, you are okay but if it
is because cables are disconnecting you might want to make sure that your computer isn't
being moved and the cables become unplugged because you are pulling them too tight and
same with the hard drive itself.
